Companies are hiring for wellbeing — put it on your CV

A recent piece in OnRec argues that employee health has moved from a minor perk to a genuine business strategy — some companies now have dedicated wellbeing executives, and recruiters are told to talk up mental health support, flexible schedules and healthy workplace culture when selling roles to candidates.

Whether or not your next employer has gone that far, the direction is worth noticing. If health and wellbeing are becoming part of how companies pitch themselves to candidates, it's also becoming part of what candidates should be asking about — and, in some cases, part of what they can offer.

What this means if you're job hunting

For most jobseekers this isn't about needing a public health degree or a new job title. It's two smaller, practical things: firstly, wellbeing and culture claims in job ads and on careers pages are increasingly something you can (and should) probe at interview, not just skim past. Secondly, if you've genuinely got relevant experience — running wellbeing initiatives, managing absence and retention, HR programme design, or a clinical/public health background — that's now a more marketable skill set than it used to be, especially for HR, people, and operations roles.

How to use this in your application

  • If you've led or contributed to any wellbeing, engagement, or retention initiative, name it specifically on your CV rather than burying it under a general HR bullet point.
  • If you're applying into HR, talent, or people-ops roles, look at whether the employer talks about wellbeing as strategy (not just perks) — mirror that language sensibly in your cover letter if it's genuinely relevant to your experience.
  • At interview, ask what health and wellbeing support actually looks like day to day, not just what's listed. Vague answers tell you something too.
  • Don't invent involvement you didn't have — if wellbeing wasn't part of your role, don't force it in. Focus your CV on what you actually did.

A note of caution

Not every employer that mentions wellbeing has invested seriously in it, and a nice careers page doesn't guarantee a healthy day-to-day culture. Treat these claims the way you'd treat any other selling point in a job ad — worth asking about, not worth taking on faith.

FixMyCV.ai tailors your CV to the specific role and language of the job you're applying for — including relevant wellbeing or people-focused experience — without ever inventing anything you didn't actually do.
